In an increasingly challenging educational environment, self-care is not a luxury, but a necessity of modern life

In a world that values hyperproductivity, taking a break is an act of self-care. The school break in July is a valuable opportunity for teachers, coordinators, and school administrators to take care of themselves.

More than just preparing lessons or planning for the second semester, the vacation period can be dedicated to restoring the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of those who devote themselves daily to the education of children and adolescents.

Promoting a culture of mental health and well-being is necessary to prevent the current scale of physical and mental exhaustion. In Brazil, approximately 30% of workers suffer from burnout syndrome, placing the country second only to Japan. Furthermore, about 10% of the world’s population struggles with mental health disorders, with Brazil leading Latin America in cases of anxiety and depression, affecting nearly 19 million people.

The Bett Blog has put together a list of five simple ways to make the most of school break and recharge your batteries during this time:

  • 1. Rest and get a good night's sleep: Quality sleep is essential for physical and mental well-being. Rest is an active process of recovery and directly influences memory, mood, and health.

  • 2. Get some exercise:Choose activities you enjoy, such as walking, biking, or playing sports, to keep your body and mind active.

  • 3. Invest in quality leisure time: watch movies, read books for pleasure, listen to music, visit new places in your city, or pick up hobbies you’ve put aside. Enjoyable activities are sources of dopamine and help restore emotional energy.

  • 4. Connect with friends and family: Spending time with family, friends, or even pets is a powerful way to build emotional connections. Affection recharges and strengthens the bonds that support our mental health.

  • 5. Think lightly about the upcoming semester: if you feel the urge to think about work, do so in a lighthearted and creative way. Watch inspiring documentaries, read authors who broaden your perspective, or jot down ideas for when you return.
