These and other questions were discussed at Bett Brasil 2023, Latin America’s largest education and technology event, by leading figures from educational institutions, researchers, and innovative companies.

The answers to these questions point to innovative approaches in teaching practices —more digitally driven and supported by the maker culture —as well as in the application of more modern tools for school management. Luis Laurelli, educational director at ISAAC, has been following the event’s discussions since its first edition, and this time he shared his insights on the sector in a free and exclusive e-book about trends for the future of education.

1. Bilingual Education in a New Era

The landscape in this sector is changing, says the educator. “Schools are strongly embracing bilingualism, incorporating foreign language programs into their own educational systems.”

“This change, coupled with the growth of online and distance learning platforms, has created a situation in which language schools and language centers are finding it increasingly difficult to stay in business,” says Luis.

2. Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the Rise

“ChatGPT, which was widely discussed during the fair, raises a number of questions. Some say it will stifle students’ creativity. These debates are accompanied by some forward-thinking visions that foresee the rise of increasingly intelligent machines in the future,” says Laurelli.

According to the educator, the adoption of artificial intelligence is a point of no return, regardless of which path is chosen for using the technology.

3. Short-term courses are gaining popularity

At this year’s Bett Brasil, the trend of universities incorporating short-term courses into their curricula received significant attention. These courses align with the needs of professionals who pursue their careers using the “T-model”—that is, developing extensive expertise in one area and then seeking complementary opportunities for diversification.

In other words, in addition to traditional long-term courses, the current trends in the job market—based on the concept of lifelong learning—are also encouraging the emergence of a diverse range of short-term and modular options.

4. Digitizing school education as a priority

It is no longer simply a matter of adding computer-based activities to in-person classes: digitization requires a new model, one in which the boundaries between the physical and digital worlds are blurred.

“Educational systems will rapidly become digitized. Administrators are already beginning to discuss pedagogical solutions that use technology to enhance teaching practices,” notes the educational director of ISAAC.

And to achieve this goal, Pablo Doberti, a professional with more than 25 years of experience in the education sector, emphasized innovation as a key priority.

"We are overcoming challenges in a never-ending process," he said. "But it's not a frustrating kind of infinity—it's a growing infinity. As we overcome this challenge, we take on new ones, " says Pablo.

5. Digitizing School Administration for Better Results

“There are many digital solutions emerging for educational institutions’ administrative processes, such as isaac, which provides financial predictability for schools and makes it easier for financial officers to meet their payment obligations,” notes Luis.

“There is a trend toward adopting new technology-driven management models, combined with tools for academic and financial oversight. This allows educational institutions to improve the efficiency of their processes,” the educator says.

In fact, digitization promotes efficiency and reduces costs. It leads to improvements in accounting management, in the relationships between different internal departments, and even in communication with parents and guardians.

6. Emotional balance as a crucial factor

This is an increasingly pressing issue and is related to new demands that are beginning to emerge in the area of public relations and communication between schools and their staff, students, families, and society as a whole.

The focus on mental health—from staff to students—will bring a new level of humanization to the services provided by educational institutions, given that schools are welcoming environments.
