Bett Brasil aims to provide a space for dialogue where educators and professionals in the field of education have the opportunity to share experiences, explore new ideas, pass on what they have learned, and, above all, envision a Brazil with quality education and equity for all. The activities at Bett Brasil are curated to foster this dialogue, focusing on topics that are currently relevant across the country.  

Now in its 29th edition, the central theme of Latin America’s largest Innovation and Technology for Education event will be “Innovation with a Purpose: Education in Dialogue with Social Transformations.” From April 23 to 26, at Expo Center Norte, the event will feature 12 auditoriums with a schedule of concurrent sessions that includes: the Basic Education Congress, the Administrators’ Forum, Bett Talks (stories from educators about their experiences in education), workshops, the Ahead Forum (dedicated to higher and vocational education), the Public Education Auditorium, and the Startups Arena.

Next, Adriana Martinelli, Director of Content at Bett Brasil, discusses the selection of the overall theme, the content curation process, and what’s new at Bett Brasil 2024.

Bett Blog - Bett Brasil has become a barometer for issues related to the reality of the country’s educational ecosystem. Providing representation and a neutral, interactive environment for the diverse needs of education in a country of continental dimensions and such varied realities is a huge responsibility, isn’t it?

Adriana - Yes, Bett Brasil bears a great responsibility in its role as a coordinating force for the Brazilian education sector. And one of the key aspects is that it serves as an impartial platform, so that different voices—from diverse backgrounds and regions across Brazil—are heard and taken into account. This is essential in a country with such cultural and socioeconomic diversity. Representation and interaction are essential for dialogue, a hallmark of Bett events.

Bett Blog - The event is already a fixture on the education sector’s calendar, thanks to the conference’s long-standing tradition and the activities it offers, which facilitate the exchange of experiences across all levels of education—from public to private, and from K-12 to higher education. In terms of content, what can we expect from the 29th edition of Bett Brasil?

Adriana - Bett Brasil 2024 features a program centered on its main theme: “Purpose-Driven Innovation: Education in Dialogue with Social Change.” We can expect sessions on transformative learning, inclusion, digital culture and artificial intelligence, human connections, educational management, and many other topics that are relevant to the debate and reflection on how we should move forward to innovate in education. Both the formats and the content will prioritize dialogue and interaction with the audience, ensuring a more dynamic and participatory experience for attendees.

Bett Blog - In addition to the content and various activities, Bett Brasil brings renowned Brazilian experts and educators into the discussion, but this year we will have a larger number of international speakers. Does this reflect the internationalization of Bett Brasil, the largest event in Latin America, or does it also mean that we should look to and learn from what is happening in education around the world? Is that the goal?

Adriana - The presence of international speakers at Bett Brasil 2024 underscores the importance of learning and seeking solutions from a global perspective. This choice highlights the recognition of the need to transcend national borders in order to learn from the educational experiences and practices of different countries.

Furthermore, it is important to recognize that many nations are constantly striving for improvements and innovations in education. We are, therefore, on a shared journey, which offers us a valuable opportunity to learn from one another and to collaborate in the search for effective and innovative educational solutions.

Bett Blog - You are responsible for curating all the content events that take place at Bett Brasil. What were your considerations when selecting topics and speakers for this year?

Adriana - Managing the curation of Bett Brasil is, without a doubt, a major challenge and responsibility, but it is not a task I undertake alone. I rely on the valuable support of the Bett Council, which is made up of experts who actively collaborate in defining the overall theme, as well as in suggesting names and topics for the panels.

For this edition, we conducted a broad consultation with attendees, exhibitors, and speakers from previous editions of Bett. The goal was to develop a theme that would be effective and strategic, taking into account the current landscape of Brazilian education. It was very important to align the overall theme with a strategic vision of education, ensuring that the subtopics contribute meaningfully to the central theme.

For this edition, we’ve also adopted an initiative that has now become a regular practice: “Bett Escuta.” This direct channel of communication with me allows us to hear from people with different backgrounds and perspectives, making Bett Brasil even more inspiring, comprehensive, and diverse. Through it, we welcome tips, suggestions, and comments, which are recorded and incorporated as new ideas to enrich the event.

Bett Blog - This year, you’re bringing back interactive formats that debuted at last year’s Bett Brasil, such as the “Roda de Conversa,” right? In addition, in 2024, students will play a leading role in the discussions, actively participating in various panels. Can you give us a preview? 

Adriana - For 2024, we’re bringing back the innovative “Roda de Conversa” and “Aquário” formats, both of which were well-received in the 2023 edition. These formats promote interactivity and foster in-depth, thought-provoking conversations. In the “Roda de Conversa,” in particular, the sessions are moderated by journalists specializing in education, who lead the discussions in a dynamic and thought-provoking manner.

The big news this year is the inclusion of students as key participants in the discussions. They will be on stage, actively participating in some panel sessions. Including students in this way emphasizes the importance of listening to all participants in the educational ecosystem, highlighting the importance of giving an active voice to these key players in education at Bett Brasil.

Bett Blog - Throughout the year, you and the Bett Brasil organizing committee host events that bring together various education stakeholders from across Brazil. How do you view Brazilian education today, and what guidelines will the event propose to guide the discussions?

Adriana - The meetings and events organized by Bett are primarily aimed at connecting people involved in the education sector. These connections lead to learning, partnerships, business opportunities, valuable contacts, and a diversity of innovative ideas. This is at the heart of Bett’s mission. These events allow us to gain insight into the current state of Brazilian education, which is marked by a strong desire for change and the belief that the innovative projects and practices of thousands of educators are making a difference in students’ lives.

Currently, I see the Brazilian education system as fraught with unanswered questions, but through the events we organize, I see many people committed to finding those answers. What is most encouraging is to observe that this search for solutions is becoming increasingly collaborative, in line with social changes, and focused on inclusion, diversity, and equity.
