Bett Brasil, the largest event dedicated to Innovation and Technology in Education in Latin America, announces the main theme of its 29th edition, which will take place April 23–26, 2024, at Expo Center Norte in São Paulo: “Innovation with Purpose: Education in Dialogue with Social Change.”

The proposal for the central theme is grounded in the present and in a vision of the future, while also keeping pace with and engaging in dialogue regarding the constant changes in education brought about by innovations and, inevitably, by social transformations.

In this regard, the main theme proposed for Bett Brasil 2024 highlights the importance of education for the country’s development and is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the UN, notably SDG 4, which refers to inclusive, high-quality education, with equal opportunities for lifelong learning for all and equitable access.

For Adriana Martinelli, Director of Content at Bett Brasil, when discussing purpose-driven innovation in education, the message is to move beyond the mere adoption of new tools, devices, gadgets, software, hardware, diverse technological and digital media, and Artificial Intelligence. “It is imperative that all of this engage with ongoing social transformations in order to prepare individuals to face the global challenges of today and tomorrow, through the creative use of new approaches and methodologies, the development of skills, and the design of solutions to real-world problems,” says Adriana.

For this dialogue, the central theme of Bett Brasil 2024 also proposes an in-depth and participatory debate on the key issues that guide and anchor discussions about the social, economic, emotional, and educational aspects that shape the daily life of Brazilian society, as observed in “figital” arenas—that is, both physical and digital spaces.

The selection of the 2024 theme underwent a careful evaluation by the Advisory Board and other members of the Bett Brasil community, focusing on the interconnectedness of schools, networks, and communities—cohesive and strengthened educational environments where learning is a shared journey. In this spirit, in its 29th edition, the event will involve students even more—the very reason for the existence of teachers and educators.

Bett Brasil has embedded in its DNA the premise of serving as a facilitator in the Brazilian education sector, bringing public policies, private-sector initiatives, and the important participation of civil society entities and organizations into the debate and dialogue.

“The ‘core business’ of Bett Brasil, as well as Bett Global, is precisely to promote initiatives that advance comprehensive, diverse, and inclusive education—in an equitable and high-quality manner—that embraces innovation and technology. This is done without neglecting critical thinking, as well as interpersonal, emotional, and technological skills and competencies, which are integrated into the curriculum and serve as tools for our students’ development in a digitally connected world,” says Cláudia Valério, general director of Bett Brasil.

Throughout all the activities at Bett Brasil 2024, the central theme will be reflected in its six subtopics, which will be discussed by all participants, teachers, educators, experts, institutions, and civil society organizations. These topics will guide the discussions at both the Basic Education Congress and Ahead by Bett—an event dedicated to higher and vocational education—as well as other attractions at the event.

Thus, the subtheme “Equity and Quality” will address the personalization of teaching through the adoption of educational approaches that adapt to individual needs and learning styles, as well as the democratization of and access to education, culture, leisure, and sports as spaces for learning and as sources of learning experiences.  The subtopic also covers issues related to diversity and inclusion in the educational environment, gender equity, and teacher training to address diversity in the classroom.

Digital Culture is another subtopic that brings to the forefront essential discussions covering the application of Artificial Intelligence and other innovations that improve the quality of learning, the integration of the BNCC’s concepts of computational thinking into the curriculum, Digital Ethics, Media Literacy, and Digital Citizenship.

Another guiding theme of Bett Brasil 2024, “Human Connections,” will focus the discussions on parenting, effective communication, strategies to prevent school dropout, people management, the role of students as protagonists in their own education, and the education press.

As expected, the event will feature topics related to Transformative Learning, covering Data Intelligence, Formative and Process-Based Assessment, the New High School Curriculum, Lifelong Learning, and the potential of Deep Learning.

In “Social-Emotional Intelligence,” experts and educators will engage with the audience on topics such as the development of social-emotional skills, mental well-being and emotional health, a culture of empathy and respect, social-emotional learning integrated into the curriculum, and the assessment of social-emotional learning.

Last but not least—and a highly topical issue— Bett Brasil 2024 will address topics related to Sustainable Futures, encompassing Education for Sustainability—based on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices—in the educational curriculum, as well as climate education, professions of the future, financial literacy, and the “neither-nor” generation, which neither studies nor works.
