Play is a process of discovery that transforms learning. It is not merely a way to entertain and distract. This process stimulates various cognitive functions, such as attention, memory, planning, reasoning, and critical thinking.

The development of the nervous system—which rapidly increases our intelligence during childhood—requires real-world experiences, and play is about experimenting, creating, and learning. These experiences consist of our interactions with objects and games, as well as our social and emotional relationships.

In addition to developing our essential skills, play is also a time for bonding! Emotional interaction helps us regulate our behavior: respecting rules, waiting for others’ turns, helping, competing, negotiating, trusting… And in this way, we create opportunities to understand others, make sense of situations, develop empathy, and find ways to express how we feel.

There are no limits or age restrictions when it comes to play. Everyone plays—everyone can! Or we need to believe that this is the case, and in doing so, we’ll be even better able to use our imagination, exercise our creativity, and build a supportive environment for every child’s learning in a neurodiverse society. After all, a playful environment is enjoyable, accessible, and motivating.

At home, at school, in therapy—everywhere. There’s no better way to learn how to learn than by PLAYING!
