A Bett Brazil, Latin America's largest education and technology conference, to be held May 9–12 at the Transamerica Expo Center in São Paulo, has confirmed the participation of renowned professionals and experts in the Bett Brasil Congress lectures, which will take place throughout the four-day event. 

Rene Silva, founder and editor-in-chief of the newspaper *Voz das Comunidades*, will present the lecture “Voices That Connect” on May 10 at 5:00 p.m., featuring a special appearance by Serginho Groisman, host of *Altas Horas* (Rede Globo). He is attending the event as part of the LED Movement—Light in Education, an initiative of Globo and the Roberto Marinho Foundation. Also on May 10 at 5:00 p.m., Martha Gabriel, one of Brazil’s most influential digital thinkers and an award-winning international speaker, will present the lecture “Artificial Intelligence: Impacts on Education.” 

Journalist Iberê Thenório will be speaking at the event on May 9 at 5:00 p.m., presenting “What I Learned While Building a Submarine.” He is one of the creators of the “Manual do Mundo” YouTube channel, which has over 17.5 million subscribers and is one of the world’s largest channels dedicated to science and technology. 

Another highlight of this year’s Bett Brasil will be the inspiring talk “Those Who Dare, Win!”, presented by soccer player Cafu, captain of the Brazilian National Soccer Team during their fifth World Cup victory in 2002. The talk will take place on the 12th at 5 p.m., alongside Mariah Morais, a journalist, writer, and president of Instituto Brilhante. Mariah was the first woman to commentate on soccer matches on Brazilian television. 

Joining the list of confirmed speakers is Augusto Cury, a psychiatrist, writer, and founder of Escola da Inteligência, who will give a talk titled “Emotional Management for the Job Market: How to Become a More Emotionally Healthy Professional” on May 10 at 5:00 p.m.; Enio Ohmaye, CXO at EF Education First and former Apple scientist; Adriana Fóz will discuss the topic “Schools Mobilizing Parents and Students for Learning and Mental Health” on May 10 at 5:00 p.m.; Amanda Costa, founder and executive director of the Perifa Sustentável Institute, will speak on “Climate Justice, Environmental Racism, and the Ecological Crisis. What’s happening to the world?”, on May 12 at 5 p.m.

ChatGPT, Minecraft, Fake News, Mental Health, and Much More

Telma Vinha, a professor at Unicamp’s School of Education, is one of the speakers bringing to Bett Brasil a key topic for Brazilian education: mental health and the psychological assessment of adolescents. During the panel, which will take place on the 10th at 2:30 p.m., Vinha will also address issues related to the recent attacks that have occurred at schools across the country. 

A current and essential topic in education, the use of Artificial Intelligence and ChatGPT in schools and educational institutions was bound to be one of the most anticipated themes of the event. Experts from Microsoft Brazil— Vera Cabral, Director of EDU-Skilling, and Ricardo Wagner, Director of Marketing and Operations—will present the panel “ChatGPT and OpenAI… the transformation of education is now inevitable” on the 9th at 10:30 a.m.

On the 12th, at 3:30 p.m., the panel discussion “ChatGPT: Hero or Villain?” will take place, featuring Ademar Celedônio, Director of Teaching and Educational Innovations at SAS - Educação Plataforma; Ivan Seidel Gomes, Chief Product Officer at Layers Education; and Erika Iagallo, from the consulting firm “O Poder Da Colaboração.”

Another topic to be covered at the event is gamification in education. One example is the participation of Francisco Tupy—a professor, master’s degree holder, and Ph.D. from ECA-USP who specializes in the application of video games in education and communication—who will take part in the panel “Is it possible to play, engage, and learn at the same time?”, alongside Tiago Eugênio, co-founder and executive director of the Neurons Educational Platform and founder of Aula Em Jogo, and Paula Manzotti Scramin, a partner at Kailo Desenvolvimento Humano. The panel will take place on the 9th at 2:00 p.m.

Tupy is one of the consultants for the educational project “A Terra Não Minerável,” which will be presented to the public for the first time during Bett Brasil. The goal is to educate and raise awareness about the preservation of indigenous lands through the creation of a brand-new map in Minecraft, the world’s best-selling video game. 

Media literacy education in schools will also be widely discussed at Bett Brasil. Alexandre Le Voci Sayad, a Bett Brasil advisor, director of ZeitGeist (Education, Culture, and Media), and co-chair of the UNESCO MIL Alliance—UNESCO’s international alliance for media literacy—will lead three panels that will address how the spread of fake news should be handled in schools, as well as the role of social media and the importance of media literacy for educators. The panels will feature Patricia Blanco, executive president of the Palavra Aberta Institute; Beto Silva, editor of Isto É Dinheiro magazine; Sandhra Cabral, journalist and CEO of Educar para Ser Grande; Alessandra Borelli, partner and CEO of Opice Blum Academy; and Januaria Cristina Alves, director of Entrepalavras Produção de Textos.

Bett Brasil 2023 will also welcome experts in education and technology who are recognized both in Brazil and abroad

Luciano Meira, who holds a Ph.D. in mathematics education from the University of California (Berkeley, U.S.), a master’s degree in cognitive psychology, and a bachelor’s degree in education, is an adjunct professor of psychology at the Federal University of Pernambuco and a visiting professor at Cesar School (Center for Advanced Studies and Systems) in Recife. Meira was the only Brazilian speaker at Bett UK, the world’s largest education and technology event.

Tião Rocha, from Minas Gerais, founder and CEO of the CPCD (Popular Center for Culture and Development), anthropologist, community educator, and folklorist. 

Dado Schneider, who holds a Ph.D. in Communication from PUC/RS, is a professor, researcher, business consultant, and national and international speaker. He created the Claro brand and served as Magalu’s digital evangelist during the company’s digital transformation.

Gil Giardelli, a professor, collaborates with the Dom Cabral Foundation, PUC/RS, ESPM, and Insper, and in recent years has taught in the MBA programs at ESPM, FIA-LABFIN/PROVAR, and INEPAD-USP. He has taught as a visiting professor at Stanford University, Imperial College, and MIT. He is a member of Stanford University’s MediaX, where he researches the impact of innovation, the future of work, robots and humanoids, and digital transformation in the business world. 

Lucia Santaella, a CNPq Category 1A researcher and full professor at PUC-SP. She has served as a visiting researcher at several European and Latin American universities. She has published 54 books and edited 29, in addition to publishing nearly 500 articles in Brazil and abroad. She has received the Jabuti Award (2002, 2009, 2011, 2014), the Sergio Motta Award (2005), and the Luiz Beltrão Award (2010). 

Rossandro Klinjey, co-founder and ambassador of Educa, is a psychologist, speaker, and writer specializing in mental health and human development. Klinjey is a professor in the master’s program in Organizational Psychology and Personnel Management at PUC-RS and a visiting professor in the Happiness course at UNICAMP (SP). He is a consultant for Rede Globo on issues related to behavior, education, and family, and a columnist for Rádio CBN, where he hosts the columns “O Divã de Todos Nós” and “Saúde Integral.”

Edgard Gouveia, director of Epic Training and Human Development. A speaker at various TEDx events and an international consultant in Europe, North America, and Asia, where he applies social technologies such as World Café, Open Space, Circle Dances, Nonviolent Communication, and the Oasis Game.

Sidnei Shibata, who heads Khan Academy's operations in Latin America, aims to promote the platform as a supplementary educational resource for school districts, teachers, and students. He brings experience from the telecommunications, technology, and consulting industries, having worked at both domestic and multinational companies.
