The Brasil Escola has launched its own Book Club with an exclusive channel for the reading group directly on WhatsApp. Participation is free and includes interactions, reading tips, and a discussion about each book read during monthly live streams on YouTube.

Book lovers Nayana Moreira, Natália Lemes, and Lara Beatriz will host the virtual space for literary discussions and will appear on the club’s monthly YouTube livestream. The goal is to facilitate an online discussion group where participants can share what stood out most in the story they read, discuss their impressions of the book, share fanfiction, and exchange opinions and engage in debates on themes addressed in the readings.

The first book will be the fantasy novel *Quarta Asa* by American author Rebecca Yarros. Genre diversity is a hallmark of the initiative, which will feature romance, fiction, fantasy, thrillers, classics, and more. Members will be able to participate in polls to choose the book of the month.

What is the Brasil Escola Book Club, and how will it work?

The Brasil Escola Book Club will feature one book to read each month. Each reader can read at their own pace and, throughout the month, check in and participate in discussions on the WhatsApp channel about their progress, notable passages, and exchanges among group members.

Participation in Brasil Escola's "Canal do Livro" is free.

The goal is for the books to be diverse in terms of genre, characteristics, and authorship. On some occasions, the book of the month will also be chosen collectively, through an open vote among the club members.

At the end of each month, Brasil Escola’s booklovers—Nayana Moreira, Natália Lemes, and Lara Beatriz—will host a live stream on YouTube to discuss the book they’ve read.

The goal is to foster interaction with club members, allowing them to engage with each other throughout the month both on the WhatsApp channel and during the YouTube livestream.

In addition, the content planned for the channel includes reading tips, reminders, and reflections on the most memorable passages from the book.

Lara Beatriz, a copyeditor at Brasil Escola, lists the main features of the Book Club below:

• Curation: There are countless books. It’s often easier to develop an interest in reading when someone helps us choose what to read and when we choose a book that many other people are already reading.
• Group Reading: Every month, we’ll read a book together. This group reading will help us read with a specific goal in mind: to share our experiences!
• Reading Goals: Discussing the book on our WhatsApp channel—based on realistic reading goals to be achieved throughout the month—will help make reading a natural part of your routine rather than a chore. Reading can (and should) be fun, and here you’ll see that in action!
• Closing Live Stream: There’s nothing better than getting together to talk about a book! That’s why, after each reading, we’ll host a live stream to discuss it and share our experiences together. Reading doesn’t have to be a solitary activity—and here, it certainly won’t be!

Book Club and the Habit of Reading

The Book Club encourages the habit of reading, as it provides a relaxed space for reading famous books across different genres, says copyeditor Lara Beatriz.

For Brasil Escola content analyst Nayana Moreira—who is also a fan of horror books—the Book Club can foster a sense of belonging. This is because, while reading, readers often feel lonely—that is, they have no one with whom to share what they’re reading.

Nayana believes that the club allows readers to form a community—a space where they can discuss the stories and talk about the different perspectives on the same story.

"It's a time to relax and engage in literary discussion, allowing us to interact with new people, discover new authors, and be part of a diverse community of readers!"

Lara also emphasizes that it is an opportunity to read works that people would not normally read under other circumstances, which broadens their horizons and exposes them to different types of literature. 

Natália Lemes, editorial manager at Brasil Escola, believes that the club helps guide people who are unsure about what to read. Another point mentioned by the book lover is setting a reading goal. In other words, if you read one book a month, you’ll have read twelve books by the end of the year.
