How can we encourage reading through gamification in education?
In an interview with Conexão Bett, Carolina Pavanelli, Árvore’s head of pedagogy, emphasizes that a game-based approach can enhance learning by engaging students

Gamification in education is a valuable tool for making lessons more engaging and dynamic for students. In the new episode of Conexão Bett, Árvore’s Head of Pedagogy, Carolina Pavanelli, shares her experience using gamification to engage students in the digital environment and explains how AI is a resource that enhances gamification while also supporting teachers in the classroom.

"The first time I came across the idea of gamification was before the pandemic, on a trip to Finland. What caught my attention was that, in several schools, there were educational games in the classrooms—whether it was an interactive whiteboard, Legos, or puzzles," recalls Carolina.

She explains how Árvore’s gamification has been a powerful tool for increasing student engagement.“We’ve already reached about 2 million students, and we’ve noticed that, after adopting Árvore’s gamification, they read six times more than the national average. This is because we’ve created incentives like the Reading Olympics, where students receive rewards for their reading," she says.

The platform also offers other incentives, such as the Digital Forest, which features the mascot Otto—a character that students help save through reading. “The more a student reads intentionally, the more points and coins they accumulate, which allows them to purchase trees and rainy days to water their virtual forest. And teachers can track all of their students’ reading progress through a dashboard they have access to,” explains Carolina. The edtech company Árvore is a gamified platform that promotes digital literacy in public and private institutions.
