Bett Show UK Delegation: We Must Learn Today to Lead Tomorrow
The first day of the Bett Showin London featured booths and lectures packed with educators from around the world, eager to learn more about technologies and how to apply them in the classroom. As this year’s official theme states, we must first learn in order to lead later.
The inevitable topic of Artificial Intelligence was one of the most notable on Wednesday (22). According toThomas Davin, UNICEF’s director of innovation, we must recognize the risks of AI, but it is still worth moving forward. “There are so many children around the world who start school and don’t learn that, in my view, it’s worth taking certain risks,” he said during a talk on AI trends.
Davin explained that UNESCO is developing a pilot program that “scans” paper books, digitizes them, and transforms them into interactive content, and he believes this is just one of many positive possibilities that will emerge. “There are teachers around the world with classes of 70 students. We have to help these teachers so we can help the students,” he said.
In addition to enjoying everything the fair has to offer, members of the Brazilian delegation were also able to participate in exclusive events. At lunch on Wednesday (the 22nd), Quizizz brought together a group of public education leaders to present new features of its product and a success story involving the Paraná state school system.
“Restoring learning after the pandemic still requires a great deal of effort. Our solution helps identify gaps and engage students in their own learning,” said Rebeca Rios, the company’s director of pedagogy.
That evening, part of the Brazilian group attended a dinner organized by Canva, while another group went to a dinner on a boat on the River Thames, a joint initiative ofthe SQUARE Ecosystem, Start by Alura, and Editora do Brasil. At the event, the Federal District’s Secretary of Education, Hévia Fraga, had a message for companies wishing to help Brazil’s public school system. “Listen to our school systems—to what we need. Really listen. There’s no point in coming up with ready-made solutions,” she said.
The Bett UK Delegation is supported by the British Consulate General, Britannica Education, SQUARE Ecosystem, Editora do Brasil, EF Education First, Google, Letrus, Samsung, Start by Alura, and Quizizz.
