A group of Brazilian public school administrators was received on Monday afternoon (the 22nd) by members of the British government at the Palace of Westminster to discuss educational synergies between Brazil and the United Kingdom, as well as to exchange experiences and explore potential partnerships between the two countries.

“I hope we can take this opportunity to exchange ideas that will contribute significantly to the dialogue between our countries,” said Rupert Daniels, director of the UK’s Department for Business and Trade, as he welcomed the Brazilian delegation. Among the topics discussed, Daniels mentioned technology, language learning, curriculum design, and skills development.

Marco Longhi, a member of Parliament, noted that the United Kingdom and Brazil have a “long history of cooperation.” “Our shared values provide a solid foundation for strengthening and deepening our ties. There are many areas where our experiences complement each other,” he said.

The British government currently has exchange partnerships with states and municipalities in Brazil, such as the Paraíba state school system, which offers a three-month study program in the United Kingdom for about 100 high school students each year. “It is a privilege for the United Kingdom to welcome these students,” said Longhi. The British government intends to expand agreements like this one and welcome an increasing number of young people from Brazil’s public schools.

During the event, everyone had the opportunity to learn about existing initiatives and discuss new possibilities. “We are learning about extraordinary initiatives that could lead to more partnerships to benefit our public education policies,” said Paraíba’s Secretary of Education, Antônio Roberto de Araújo Souza.

“It was important for the Federal District to be here to explore ways to strengthen partnerships, both with the British government and with other partners who are here today,” said Luan Lopes Leite, undersecretary of technology for the Federal District.

The delegation’s schedule will continue through Friday (the 26th), with more visits to schools and institutions of higher education, as well as, of course, participation in Bett UK, the world’s largest education and technology event. The Brazilian delegation is supported by the British Consulate General and Edlatam Alliance, in partnership with Google for Education, Samsung, and Systemic Bilingual.
