The Brazilian edtech company Tree won the award in the People's Choice category GesAwards (Global Edtech Startups Awards Competition), hosted by the Bett Show, the world’s largest education and technology event, held in London this Thursday (25). Before winning the trophy, the company had to go through months of selection rounds, culminating in the final competition among 24 edtech startups from every continent.

Carolina Pavanelli, Árvore’s head of education, said she was moved by the award, feeling that it represented all of Brazil. “We have such a large and strong community, but this was the first time a Brazilian edtech company has won this award,” she said.

When introducing the company, Carolina spoke about the importance of encouraging reading for learning. “Children earn points with each reading and can plant digital trees. They love watching the forest grow. Thanks to this gamification, these children read six times more than other children in the country,” she noted.

During the ceremony, while introducing the competitors from the Americas, Fernando Valenzuela, CEO of EdLatam Alliance, highlighted their ability to innovate even in the face of adversity. “Innovations that come from places we wouldn’t expect,” he added.
