Media Literacy: How to Combat Fake News in Schools
In an interview with Conexão Bett, Patricia Blanco, president of the Palavra Aberta Institute, discusses the spread of fake news and how media literacy can curb misinformation

The digital age has brought a host of benefits to society, but it has also brought new challenges, such as the spread of fake news. These false news stories are intentionally fabricated to deceive people and can influence opinions and habits, and even incite violence. One way to combat misinformation is through media literacy, a process that aims to teach the public to be critical of the information they receive, identify reliable sources, and verify the authenticity of shared news, especially in the online environment.

In an interview with Conexão Bett, Patricia Blanco, president of the Palavra Aberta Institute and vice president of the National Congress’s Social Communication Council, explains why fake news spreads so quickly, the importance of implementing media literacy education in schools, and how educators can help combat fake news, among other topics.

The talk show is yet another platform for dialogue at Bett Brasil, featuring various experts who offer a different perspective on the most relevant and current issues in the education sector.
