"Education for the Age of AI" is the topic of the new episode of Conexão Bett
Michaela Horvathova, co-founder and director of education at Beyond Education, discusses the social-emotional skills needed in today’s world and the growing interest in the Brazilian market

The new episode of Bett Connection features an international interview. The co-founder and director of education at Beyond Education, Michaela Horvathova, joins the conversation about education in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the skills needed in this new reality.

Beyond Education is a company that develops tools and assessments aimed at educational transformation, with a focus on the development of social-emotional skills. For Michaela, the educational system needs to be more closely aligned with the most relevant social-emotional competencies.

"I believe that AI is merely highlighting the current pressures on educational systems, which are overburdened around the world. We need to stop focusing solely on data, information, and knowledge and truly broaden the scope of education to help students develop other skills. They need to learn how to behave and engage with the world, how to apply what they know, how to adapt, and how to acquire all the skills that make us human and set us apart from AI,” Michaela emphasized.

Interest in the Brazilian market

Headquartered in France, Beyond Education operates in eight countries and views Brazil as a key market for its growth. “Even though we’re a global company, Brazil is our main market. This is due, in part, to the country’s size, but also to the appetite for innovation and improvement that we find here,” said Michaela.

She pointed out that the company is present in more than 1,500 schools in Brazil, with 200,000 students having already taken the assessments. “We have many testimonials from students, teachers, and principals who highlight the value of our assessment, which helps shed light on the various programs and interventions carried out in schools,” she emphasized.

Beyond Education has partnerships with the Lemann Foundation and the Rio de Janeiro city government, expanding its assessments and interventions in the public school system. “We are on a mission to broaden the scope of education, with a particular focus on developing essential life skills for students in the age of artificial intelligence,” said the company’s co-founder and director of education.

According to Michaela, Beyond Education’s goal is to help schools implement and carry out programs that bring about tangible change in education. "Early in my career, I worked on educational policy at the international level, focusing on top-down reforms, such as those developed by the OECD. But after years of seeing little practical change, I decided to co-found Beyond Education to take a bottom-up approach, because I believe both approaches are necessary," Michaela said.

The company also has strong local support. "We have an office in Brazil and Brazilian investors. We want to continue growing and expanding our operations here, contributing to a real transformation in education," he concluded.
