This Monday (the 20th), on the first day of activities for the Bett Show delegation in London, educators and school professionals visited the Google office in the English capital, where they were able to learnabout educational technology applications, as well as tools that will soon be released in Portuguese.

Felipe Neves, head of Google Workspace for Education in Latin America, argues that artificial intelligence (AI) is the world’s next great revolution, although he acknowledges that it has been in use for many years.

In Gmail, for example, AI began identifying spam to help clean up inboxes, and later started autocompleting words and phrases as people type. However, the leap in capabilities has been increasingly significant. Today, it was demonstrated that AI can already create podcasts based on text selected by a teacher. Currently, this feature is available only in English.

“NotebookLM creates a personalized chatbot that will limit its responses to only the database you add—and it will even cite the sources it used in its response,” Neves explained during the presentation. And you can create this chatbot even without any specific programming knowledge. “It’s all very simple to use, designed for a teacher or educational leader to use,” he added.

During the presentation, Ismael Ferreira, a Google engineer, emphasized that Google’s solutions are tailored to the realities of Brazilian education. “I’m a technologist, but I need to sit down with teachers to understand their reality and translate that into technology,” he said.

It actually helps education administrators as well

One of the unique features of the Chromebook for education, for example, is that all website and access time restrictions are built directly into the device, regardless of the network. Therefore, even if students connect to private networks instead of the school network, they will still be subject to all the restrictions set by the educational institution.

Ciça Melo, CEO of Instituto Apontar, attended the event and really enjoyed the content of the presentations, especially the discussions on artificial intelligence. “I’ve been studying AI a lot; it’s a subject we need to understand and learn about in order to use it productively,” she said.

As a professor of entrepreneurship at Trinity College Dublin, Ana Clara Brevi de Moura said she plans to apply what she’s learned to her daily teaching routine. “Most of these things aren’t new, but we end up not using them that much. This podcast tool is incredible, and I found its applications for giving feedback to students very interesting—it’s something that takes a lot of work and time, and I saw that AI can help me be more efficient,” she said.
