The Bett Nordeste Conferencekicked off this Wednesday (27), bringing together educators, administrators, and experts in Recife for two days of discussions on innovation, equity, and the future of education. Organized by Bett Brasil in partnership with Sinepe-PE, the program features three concurrent sessions, with more than 60 national and international speakers , as well as an exhibition area showcasing solutions, products, and innovations from more than 40 companies in the education sector.

The official opening took place at 11 a.m. in the plenary auditorium with the session “A New Approach to Learning to Build Regenerative Futures, ” moderated by journalist Ciro Guimarães. The panel featured Bett Brasil’s general director, Claudia Valério; the president of the Private Schools Union (SINEPE-PE), José Ricardo Diniz; and the president of the National Council of Education Secretaries (Consed) and Sergipe’s State Secretary of Education, José Sobral. The guests highlighted the need to rethink teaching practices, strengthen collaboration between public and private school systems, and create innovative strategies to address future challenges.

In the “Consciousness” track, the panel brought together Tania Fontolan, educational director at Somos Educação, and Mariana Filizola, general coordinator of Media Education at the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, to discuss the topic “Media literacy for a complex and ever-changing world.” The presentation highlighted the importance of media education as a fundamental tool for students to develop critical thinking, analyze information responsibly, and interact in a mindful way.

“If we are preparing our students for 2035 or 2040, we need to incorporate digital literacy and media education into our curricula in an organic, ongoing, and consistent manner throughout the 14 years of basic education,” said Fontolan.

“Media literacy is no longer a distinguishing feature, but an essential skill for shaping informed citizens capable of dealing with the challenges of the information age,” emphasized Mariana Filizola, who addressed the importance of digital and media education as a shared responsibility among schools, the government, and families, stressing that the development of critical-thinking citizens in the digital environment is urgent. “There’s no point in having a system with super-fast internet if there isn’t intentional educational planning to transform that connectivity into learning,” she noted.

In the “Creation” track, the panel “Technology for All: Infrastructure and Equity in Schools” featured a discussion on the challenges of connectivity and digital inclusion in Brazil. The debate included FNDE’s Director of Technology and Innovation, Delson Silva, and School Guardian’s co-founder and CBO, Leo Gmeiner. The discussion addressed the challenges and opportunities involved in implementing connectivity policies in schools. “The goal is to promote digital equity and inclusion, ensuring that connectivity is used with a pedagogical purpose and guaranteeing the quality of education we want for the country,” emphasized Delson Silva.

In the “Cuidado” track, the topic “Do We Want Agency or Obedience? Rethinking Relationships at School” featured an “aquarium” format, in which participants were able to interact directly with the speakers, creating a space for open and reflective dialogue. The discussion was moderated by Bruno França, educational projects coordinator at Cesar School, and featured Luciana Beltrão, educational supervisor at Escola Vila Aprendiz, and Vanessa Tenório, CEO of Systemic.

“We cannot expect students to develop autonomy in an environment that values blind obedience. We need to create spaces for listening and shared responsibility,” emphasized Vanessa Tenório. In addition to the need to rethink educational paradigms to ensure student agency, Vanessa stressed the importance of methodologies that foster meaningful interactions, rather than practices based solely on memorization and repetition. “In the age of artificial intelligence, it makes no sense to memorize information; we need to teach students to use, interpret, and critically evaluate knowledge in an active and contextualized way,” she said.

The lecture “From Technology to the Internationalization of Education: Innovation in Recife’s Education System, ” held as part of the “Consciousness” track, highlighted the significant changes promoted by the Recife Department of Education through innovative public policies. The discussion highlighted how the pedagogical use of digital technologies, combined with the expansion of educational experiences through international exchange programs, has impacted the school curriculum, continuing professional development for teachers, and educational opportunities for students in the municipal school system.

The panel featured Marcelo Dantas, general manager of educational strategies at the Recife Department of Education, and Renata Serpa Vieira, general manager of educational exchange. “We are preparing our students for a connected, borderless world, ensuring that technology and internationalization serve as tools for equity and innovation in education,” said Renata.

The first day of the Bett Nordeste 2025 Conference concluded with a presentation in the “Creation” track by Xavier Aragay, president of Reimagine Education. The Spanish expert led the discussion by highlighting the importance of taking a moment to reflect and anticipate the changes that lie ahead in various areas. “The transformations will be profound. We need to lead this educational change, face the challenges and pressures, and support teachers and families to promote innovative experiences that make the education of new generations a reality in this century of constant and disruptive change,” said Aragay.

During the lecture, the audience learned about international experiences, proposals, and new approaches, as well as practical strategies for advancing the educational transformation that is already underway in various parts of the world.

The second day of the Bett Nordeste Conference took place this Thursday (28), from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Recife Expo Center, featuring a program of debates, panel discussions, and presentations focused on innovation and technology in education.
