In 2025, 36.8 million students were enrolled in Brazil’s public basic education system, according to the School Census. This figure helps illustrate the responsibility that states and municipalities have for ensuring students’ access to education, their learning, and their continued attendance at school.

To discuss approaches and solutions to the challenges faced by this network, the Bett Nordeste Conference will feature a space dedicated exclusively to public education. On August 19 and 20, at the Recife Expo Center in Recife (PE), the Public Education Auditorium will welcome educators, experts, and representatives from the public sector to discuss topics related to the formulation and implementation of educational policies, teaching practices, inclusion, technology, management, and school community participation.

With free admission for all visitors to the conference, the auditorium is part of the event’s program, which is expected to draw more than 2,000 participants, in addition to 50 exhibiting brands and 70 speakers.

From Public Policy to School Practice

The program begins on August 19 with the panel discussion “The future of education isn’t in the plan. It’s in the execution.” The discussion will feature Luiz Miguel Garcia,president of Undime Nacional; Cecília Cruz , Recife’s municipal secretary of education ; and Leonardo Pascoal, president ofCONSEC—the National Council of Education Secretaries of State Capitals. The discussion will address how the new National Education Plan (PNE) can guide effective actions in municipalities and states, strengthening public policies that have an impact on students’ lives.

Next, psychologist Aldynne Fernandes, CEO of Universo do Psi Escolar, will deliver a lecture titled “Educating Means Understanding People: Why Psychology Is Essential in Contemporary Schools.” The lecture will address the scope of practice in school psychology and recent updates to NR-1.

The panel “Curriculum in Action: Integrating Technologies to Transform Learning” will discuss the incorporation of technologies into the curriculum beyond the adoption of digital tools. Marcelo Dantas, general manager of Educational Strategies at the Recife Municipal Department of Education, and Lucas Fialho, general manager of the Pernambuco Department of Education, will address topics such as pedagogical intent, teacher training, change management, and public policy.

Also on the first day, the relationship between school and family will be the focus of “Learning in Action: What Happens When School and Family Work Together?” Bete Rodrigues, an educational consultant at Disciplina Positiva Brasil, and Leonardo Xavier, the bilingual pedagogical coordinator at the Centro de Educação Integrada, will discuss experiences of bringing families and schools closer together and their impact on relationships, student engagement, and learning.

Inclusion, data, and partnerships on the agenda for the second day

On August 20, the program begins with the lecture “When Evidence Meets Public Policy: The Case of the Bilingual Public School in Pilar (AL),” featuring Cristiano Alcântara, the educational coordinator for the São Paulo City Government .

Next, the panel “Inclusion Is Transformation: Pathways to a School That Learns from Diversity” features Ana Paula Oliveira Piu, a consultant specializing in public policies for inclusive education at the Vanzolini Foundation, and Carla Mauch, general coordinator of Mais Diferenças – Inclusive Education and Culture, Carla Mauch, for a discussion on pedagogical practices, leadership, and school cultures capable of recognizing diversity and promoting participation, equity, and learning.

Still on the topic of inclusion, the lecture “Understanding to Welcome” offers a reflection on autism, inclusion, and a sense of belonging, led by Kadu Lins, CEO of the Autism Institute .

Also on the second day’s schedule is the panel discussion “From Data to Action: How Technology Strengthens Learning, School Management, and Decision-Making in Public Education.” Alex Sandro Gomes, a professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco, and Cristieni Castilhos, CEO of MegaEdu, will discuss how data, platforms, and digital solutions can support administrators and educators in identifying challenges, monitoring learning, and making evidence-based decisions.

And to conclude the Public Education auditorium program, the role of collaboration among different stakeholders will be the focus of the panel “Partnerships That Transform: From Collaboration to Impact.” José Aliperti, CEO of Astra Infraestrutura e Concessões Educacionais S/A, and Roni Miranda, Paraná’s State Secretary of Education, will participate in a discussion on experiences, challenges, and lessons learned from partnerships aimed at strengthening public policies and expanding educational opportunities.

By bringing together different perspectives on public education, the conference addresses issues that are part of the daily routine for policymakers, school district administrators, and those who work directly in schools. Registration for the event is available here.
