Technology Promotes Mutual Learning Around the World, Says Speaker at Bett UK and Brazil

“We’re all connected and can learn from one another”—that’s how Lord Jim Knight, a speaker at Bett UK who will also be speaking at Bett Brasil, sums up the power of technology for global education. He is the director of Suklaa Ltd and a former British minister for schools, digitalization, and employment. 

After the panel he moderated—on how technology is transforming education—came to a close, he said he was excited to be participating in the São Paulo event for the first time. “Although every city, every country, and every context is different, what we’ve seen with the widespread adoption of mobile technology around the world due to the pandemic is that some issues are becoming universal,” he said.

“The power of technology to connect people, foster a sense of community, and share what we’ve learned is truly profound. I’m sure that because Brazil’s context is different, there are different things to learn from our context in England—and vice versa. The more we take advantage of opportunities like Bett to bring people together and promote the exchange of ideas, the more powerful that exchange becomes,” said Knight.

In his view, in the British context, schools still lack strategic leadership in the use of technology, which often ends up being used on an ad hoc basis, depending on individual preferences, without any cohesion. However, there are good examples, especially when there is dialogue between school administrators, teachers, families, and students. “Schools that are managing to engage the community in their technology strategy are succeeding.”
