Daniel Munduruku earned his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, History, and Psychology from the Salesian University Center of São Paulo; he holds a master’s degree in social anthropology and a doctorate in education from the University of São Paulo, as well as a postdoctoral degree in Linguistics from the Federal University of São Carlos. He founded the Brazilian Indigenous Institute for Intellectual Property and was one of the founders of the National Gathering of Indigenous Writers and Artists, which has been in existence for nearly two decades. Today, he is the CEO of the Uk'a Institute—House of Ancestral Knowledge in the city of Lorena, an NGO and publishing house specializing in indigenous issues. He is also a member of the Lorena Academy of Letters and, in 2026, assumed seat 21 at the São Paulo Academy of Letters. Daniel has twice received the Order of Cultural Merit, in 2013 in the Grand Cross category from the Ministry of Culture—the highest official honor a civilian can receive in the cultural field.

An award-winning author in Brazil and abroad, Daniel has won awards such as: the Jabuti Award three times, the Brazilian Academy of Letters Award for best children’s book, the Érico Vanucci Mendes Award (CNPq), and the UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Award for the promotion of tolerance and nonviolence. Many of his books have received the “Highly Recommended” seal from the National Foundation for Children’s and Youth Literature (FNLIJ). He recently published a series for grades 1 through 5 titled “We Are All: Indigenous and Afro-Brazilian History and Culture,” with a focus on public education, through Editora Divulgação Cultural.
