Débora Garofalo holds a bachelor’s degree in Language and Literature and Education, with a specialization in the Portuguese language from Unicamp; a master’s degree in Education from PUC-SP; and is a FabLearn Fellow at Columbia University in the U.S. She has been a teacher in the São Paulo public school system for 16 years and is the founder of the “Robotics with Scrap Materials” program, which has become public policy. She is currently the Coordinator of the Innovation Center at the São Paulo State Department of Education. She is a columnist for Rede Inovadora at Editora Moderna, a columnist for Educação magazine, and a columnist for Mecatrônica magazine. She is the author of the book *Almanaque de Robótica com Sucata* (Almanac of Robotics with Scrap Materials), published by Editora Moderna.  

Member of the São Paulo City Human Rights Commission and speaker at major national events. For her work in public education, she has received several major awards, including: Professores do Brasil 2018, the MIT Creative Learning Challenge 2019, the UN Peacemakers Medal 2019, and recognition as one of the Top 10 Teachers in the World by the Global Teacher Prize 2019, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize in Education.”
