The emotional distress of students and educators has become part of everyday school life—and the response has often been to medicalize behaviors that reveal deeper problems. In this panel discussion, the debate challenges school administrators to look at the real life unfolding in the hallways: excessive demands, strained relationships, silent suffering, lack of time, a culture of urgency, and dehumanizing practices. The discussion highlights what schools are doing—and failing to do—in the face of this scenario, and explores which management approaches can mitigate harm, strengthen bonds, and care for people before pathologizing everything.
