Literacy begins long before letters. It is in early childhood education that the foundations of cognitive, emotional, social, and linguistic development—which underpin the acquisition of reading and writing skills—are laid. This session discusses how intentional experiences in early childhood—play, spoken language, interaction, listening, movement, and bonding—prepare children for literacy in a more consistent, equitable, and meaningful way.
