Bett Educar, Latin America’s largest education and technology event, will launch the “Higher Education in Brazil” program in Brasília (DF) on Tuesday, September 3. The program will be part of the agenda for its international Bett Educar conference, which will take place May 12–15, 2020, in São Paulo.

Until this year, both the Bett Educar conference and its lectures and workshops focused primarily on topics related to basic education. Starting in 2020, the section dedicated to higher education will be expanded and given greater prominence in the program. “We’re going to broaden the discussions surrounding higher education and, of course, its close relationship with basic education. These sectors need to listen to one another, and Bett Educar aims to be one of those platforms for dialogue,” explains Maria Alice Carraturi, content director at Bett Educar.

For Maria Alice, higher education—which prepares students for the new job market—must pay special attention to teacher training and to the current changes in basic education. These levels of education feed into one another and must be responsive to new demands. “There needs to be a dialogue to integrate these two levels of Brazilian education. The better a teacher’s academic training, the higher the quality of instruction in schools and the better the students’ learning outcomes—which, in turn, will better prepare them to enter higher education.”

Bett Educar’s “Higher Education in Brazil” event will feature participation from the leading organizations associated with higher education institutions (HEIs) in both the public and private sectors. Among them are ABMES (Brazilian Association of Higher Education Sponsors), ANUP (National Association of Private Universities), CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel), and CRUB (Council of Rectors of Brazilian Universities). The program will also feature representatives from the National Education Council (CNE) and the Ministry of Education (MEC).
