With Online Meetings, Bett Educar Keeps the Education Sector Engaged
As Latin America’s largest education and technology event, Bett Educar has maintained close ties and engagement with all educational institutions through online meetings. Ever since educational institutions have had to adapt and innovate in the face of social isolation and the suspension of in-person classes, online events have supported educators by providing high-quality information and expertise, always featuring national and international leaders and experts.
At its second Online Conference, held on June 23 and 24, Bett Educar brought together more than 15,000 participants, with nearly 30,000 interactions. For those who haven’t yet had the chance to watch, the content is available on Bett Educar’s YouTube channel. The conference was sponsored by Sistema CEV, Cellep, and the Santillana Foundation.
“Nothing can replace in-person interactions—whether in schools or in a wide range of professional settings—and the same is true for events, conferences, and exhibitions. But Bett Educar has remained connected with its audience by offering support, knowledge, discussions, experiences, and insights into educational activities during this unique time, while also looking ahead to the post-pandemic era,” says Claudia Valério, director of Bett Brasil.
At its most recent Online Meeting, new data was presented on the current landscape and the future of education in the post-pandemic era, plans for the return to school in public and private school systems, international protocols, and the essential support needed for students, teachers, and families once a return to school becomes possible.
The online event was moderated by Maria Alice Carraturi, content director at Bett Educar. Participants included writer and psychologist Rossandro Klinjey; Claudia Costin, director of the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Educational Policy at FGV-RJ; Haroldo Corrêa, Executive Secretary of Education for the State of São Paulo; and Leo Fraiman, writer and creator of the OPEE methodology.
To present current international practices and protocols for the return to school, Bett Educar invited Maria João Horta, Deputy Director General of Portugal’s Ministry of Education (MEC), and Jarkko Wickström, Director of Operations at Finland University. To discuss preparations for the return to school in Brazil, the event featured Valdenice Minatel, Director General of Education at Colégio Dante Alighieri (SP), and Roberta Guedes, Manager of the Basic Education Chamber at ANEC.
The Econtro Oline event also addressed education financing. Participants included Conrado Leiras Matos, Head of the Department of Education and Social Investments at BNDES, and Marcus Vinícius Macedo Alves, Manager in the Department of Clients and Institutional Relations at BNDES.
On the first day of the conference, Rossandro Klinjey spoke about teachers’ self-care as they return to school and the possible post-pandemic consequences: “We must begin to take care of ourselves right away, and schools must take the initiative to try to anticipate certain scenarios—even though we won’t know what the new normal will look like until we return. The BNCC and the new competencies—including emotional ones—will come into play much more strongly, even to support teachers, students, and families, who will certainly return with their own struggles and pain.”
Claudia Costin highlighted the pre-COVID-19 crisis in Brazilian education, Brazil’s situation compared to other countries, and the global landscape, where more than 1.5 billion students are currently without in-person classes. According to the educator, new global trends in education will be based on hybrid learning, digital culture, and skills such as adaptability, empathy, and openness to new ideas. Costin also spoke about post-pandemic educational systems, which will be characterized by paradigm shifts, a demand for greater digital inclusion, and connectivity for schools and homes.
From international experience
Maria João Horta, Deputy Director-General of the Portuguese Ministry of Education, discussed aspects of her country’s digital transformation—such as platforms for distance learning—through coordinated efforts and support for families, schools, teachers, and principals. “We provide resources and support materials for teachers, as well as platforms with digital tools.”
According to Jarkko Wickström, director of operations at the University of Finland, the Finnish approach to education now is to think about learning over time, rather than focusing so much on the tools, types of technology, and necessary changes. Jarkko noted that the assessment process will be based on data from the entire school year, rather than specifically from the period of isolation or online classes. “On the other hand, teachers will evaluate their own performance and the work they submit. During this exceptional period, the foundation is teacher training and instructional planning. What changes is building support for online learning.”
Bett Educar - In-Person
Confident that by 2021 Brazil and the world will have overcome the pandemic that has ravaged the globe, Bett Educar announces that its next in-person event will take place May 11–14 at the Transamerica Expo in São Paulo.
To that end, Bett Educar is working tirelessly to ensure that 2021 brings innovations in new technologies and methodologies that have been and are being developed during this period, as well as topics and content relevant to the challenges facing education in the post-pandemic era.
