Drawing on its expertise in in-person events in Brazil, Bett Educar is adapting to the new times and, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, will hold the 2nd Bett Online Conference in 2021, from May 11 to 14, bringing its know-how to the online environment in a completely free event, streamed live via a 3D digital platform. This year’s theme will be “The Digital and Human Transformation of Education.”

 

The program for the 2nd Bett Online Conference includes 28 panels, which will be presented by 20 speakers; three inspirational talks; eight hands-on virtual workshops, led by nine coordinators and experts; and six live presentations on the Lives Stage. Although the event is free, those interested in attending must register in advance.

The event will open on May 11 at 6:30 p.m., with remarks by Cláudia Valério, Director of Bett Educar; Vitor de Ângelo, President of Consed and Secretary of State for Education of Espírito Santo; and Luiz Miguel, National President of Undime and Municipal Director of Education for Sud Mennucci, São Paulo. Educators and brothers Sílvio Meira and Luciano Meira will conclude the opening ceremony with thought-provoking remarks on the future of education.

The changes and impacts on education resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic are highlighted through the event’s central theme—“Digital and Human Transformation of Education.” The event will present the key trends and lessons learned for the education sector, grounded in interrelated themes organized into three broad categories: Hybrid Learning and Active Methodologies; Mental Health and Social-Emotional Skills; and Change Management and Innovation.

“For the education sector, one of the defining features of the pandemic was hands-on learning, combined with the educational standards that serve as a foundation for educators. That is why we place great value on hands-on learning through dynamic and interactive situations in virtual lectures and workshops, as a space for exchanging experiences and building knowledge,” says Adriana Martinelli, Director of Content at Bett Educar.

The event also features inspiring talks, including one by Augusto Cury—a psychiatrist, researcher, and founder of the Escola da Inteligência—who will deliver a talk titled “The World Cries Out for Mental Health”; Carla Tieppo, a neuroscientist, professor, and researcher at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo, who will speak on “The Education of the Future Beyond the Digital Revolution”; and Alexandre Le Voci Sayad, a journalist and educator, director of ZeitGeist, and international co-chairman of the UNESCO MIL Alliance, who will present the topic “Times of Uncertainty — School as a Ship, Compass, and Buoy.”

 

Virtual Learning Workshops

The impacts of COVID-19 on Brazilian education will also be highlighted in all the presentations and on the Live Stages, which will feature activities focused on innovative solutions.

The presentations, organized into broad themes, will explore post-pandemic trends, approaches, and changes aimed at developing educational responses and solutions, with an emphasis on two central pillars: digital transformation (flexible models, active methodologies, hybrid learning in Brazil, international experiences, and disruptive technologies), and human transformation (the school as a network of conversations, ethical coexistence and values enhanced by technology, meditation in the educational setting as a means of reducing stress, technological inclusion, and anti-racist and anti-prejudice education).

Although the Learning Workshops are virtual, they will offer plenty of interaction and the opportunity to share experiences, featuring activities such as:

Why Don't My Students Turn On Their Cameras? An interactive workshop to discuss the challenge of understanding why students attend classes without turning on their cameras and to brainstorm strategies for engaging them in remote activities;

Creative Programming with Scratch: activities based on the concepts of constructionism (Seymour Papert) and creative learning; creating animations and games using the Scratch tool and an artificial intelligence extension;

 

Wheels of Invention: a bridge between high tech and low tech;

The Challenges of Managing Hybrid Learning: changes not only within the classroom, but also the impact on school administrators’ roles, infrastructure, teacher training, and the pedagogical organization process;

The school as a network of conversations: the quality of these conversations directly impacts outcomes and relationships among principals, teachers, students, and other members of the school community, where everyone is engaged daily in conversations that foster collaboration and learning;

Mindfulness in the Educational Setting: Helping Teachers and Students Reduce Stress: Mindfulness practices adapted for the educational setting and how they can help cultivate attention, emotional balance, and compassion in the classroom.

Teachers as Learning Experience Designers: Design Aspects That Can Support Innovative Pedagogical Practices and Transform Teachers into Experience Designers. Present and apply strategic design methods and approaches to managing change in education.

In addition to the content, the 2nd Bett Online Conference will feature more than 20 exhibiting companies, which will host workshops, facilitate networking among participants and speakers, and offer virtual tours of their booths to showcase the educational initiatives and solutions of major companies, with instant online support via chat, real-time interaction, as well as the opportunity to participate in “Lives,” attend meetings, watch videos, and download exclusive materials.
