The organizers of the Transformative Teacher Award—a joint initiative of the Significare Institute, Base2edu, and Bett Educar, aimed at recognizing initiatives that are helping to transform Brazilian education—announce changes to the schedule for the 2021 edition, primarily in light of the ongoing impacts of the pandemic on teachers’ daily lives. Applications may be submitted throughout the school year via the website: http://significare.org.br/premio. Due to this change, the awards ceremony will be held in 2022.

According to Professor Wellington Cruz, president of the Significare Institute, the decision to extend the timeline for the second edition of the Award takes into account the significant changes that have occurred in the daily routines of educators across the country in light of the emergence and spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic. “The restrictions imposed by the pandemic have limited—and often made it impossible—to develop transformative educational projects in schools, a fundamental factor for the Transformative Teacher Award,” he explains. “With these adjustments, we want to provide interested educators with the opportunity to plan their participation more effectively and safely, reinforcing our desire to hold a major in-person awards ceremony,” he adds.  

The changes to the schedule for the 2021 Transformative Teacher Award also take into account the fact that it is currently impossible to hold an in-person awards ceremony, such as the one that had been planned for this year.

The Award organizers emphasize that postponing the event this year is in response to requests from teachers who were unable to carry out their projects or even submit their entries for the Award due to the current pandemic. They also emphasize that participants who have already submitted their projects for the current edition of the Award will not be disadvantaged, as all submissions remain valid for the new date. “We emphasize that the continued participation of educators who have already registered and the involvement of more professionals is essential for highlighting what Brazil has been doing to promote education as the most important tool for social transformation,” concludes Professor Wellington Cruz.  

Below is a summary of the key information regarding changes to the Award’s schedule:

• New registration deadline: by December 1, 2021, via the website http://significare.org.br/premio
• Who can participate? Teachers at all levels of basic education—early childhood, elementary school (Grades 1–4), middle school (Grades 5–8), and high school—with projects developed in public or private schools, regardless of the year the project was carried out. Participation in the Award is free.
• What changes for teachers who have already registered? Registrations already submitted for the 2021 edition of the Transformative Teacher Award remain valid. Educators who have registered are encouraged to join the Award’s group on the Telegram messaging app (accessible via this link: http://bit.ly/grupopremio) to stay up to date on information regarding the initiative.
• Withdrawal of Entries: If an educator wishes to withdraw their entry from the Award, they may submit a request via email to: premio@base2edu.com
• About the awards ceremony: It will be held in 2022 as part of the annual Bett Educar event, at a date and location to be announced.
