In light of the challenges facing higher and vocational education in Brazil, the Bett Brasil, Latin America’s largest event for Innovation and Technology in Education, presents another edition of Ahead by Bett. The initiative aims to create an environment conducive to learning, networking, and meaningful exchanges among administrators, institution operators, directors, solution providers, and educators in higher and vocational education.

One of the goals of Ahead by Bett is to foster dialogue about this final stage of education, which prepares students to enter the workforce. Expanding access to higher education remains a challenge that requires effective public policies to broaden educational opportunities.

According to the 2023 Higher Education Census, released by the Anísio Teixeira National Institute for Educational Studies and Research (INEP), only 21.6% of young people between the ages of 18 and 24 are enrolled in higher education. The data indicates that Brazil is still far from achieving Goal 12 of the 2014–2024 National Education Plan (PNE)—extended through December 2025—which calls for raising the enrollment rate to 50% for this age group.

Ahead by Bett will bring together more than 40 speakers in the Ahead Forum auditorium, with a program that will address key topics for the reinvention of higher and vocational education, and will feature an exhibition area with more than 30 solution providers for the sector.

Diverse programming and strategic themes

Debates on key topics are scheduled to take place in the Ahead Forum auditorium, including the challenges of reinventing higher and vocational education, the New Regulatory Framework for Distance Education in Brazil, financial defaults at educational institutions, the impact of artificial intelligence on education, metadesign applied to learning, teacher training in bachelor’s degree programs, and the role of extension programs in academic qualification.

The opening session, titled “From Tradition to Innovation: Reimagining Higher and Professional Education, ” will discuss the challenges and opportunities for transforming higher education, exploring new methodologies, hybrid learning experiences, and integration with the job market.

The panel will feature Rodrigo Dib, Institutional and Innovation Superintendent at the Center for Business-School Integration (CIEE), and Wagner Sanchez, Academic Vice President at FIAP, with Sandra Seabra, journalist and editor of *Revista Ensino Superior*, serving as moderator.

Another highlight of the program is the panel discussion “Artificial Intelligence and the New Paradigm in Academic Education, ” which will explore how AI is redefining higher education, bringing both opportunities and challenges. The experts will discuss personalized learning, the optimization of academic processes, and the ethical dilemmas posed by this digital transformation.

The session will feature Mauricio Garcia, a digital scientist at Solvertank, and Dr. Seiji Isotani, a full professor of Computer Science at USP and president of the International Society for Artificial Intelligence in Education, with Fábio Cespi, vice president of Tecnhe, serving as moderator.

The panel discussion “Reinventing Higher Education: AI Strategies to Transform Institutions” will explore concrete practices for implementing artificial intelligence in higher education, discussing topics such as adaptive learning, the automation of academic processes, data analysis for decision-making, and new hybrid and online models.

The panel will feature Silvio Meira, chief scientist at TDS Company, and Bruno Rocha, head of Digital Technology at YDUQS, with Ricardo Ferraz, journalist and editor of Veja magazine, serving as moderator.

Another highlight of the event will be the discussion on the “New Regulatory Framework for Distance Education in Brazil,” featuring Marcos Borges, president of Univesp, and João Vianney, a partner at Hoper Educação, moderated by João Mattar, president of the Brazilian Association of Distance Education (ABED). The speakers will analyze the impacts of the new guidelines on institutions, faculty, and students, as well as the challenges regarding scalability, inclusion, quality, and innovation in distance learning.

In addition to the names already mentioned, the Ahead Forum will feature other renowned experts, such as: Domingos Machado, president of the Tiradentes Innovation Center; Janes Fidélis Tomelin, academic vice president at Ânima; Ricardo Ponsirenas, president of the FMU and FIAM-FAAM University Centers; Andréa Paiva, director of Digital Graduate Studies at FIAP; João Albérico Aguiar, CFO of Ser Educacional S.A.; and Fabio La Selva, Head of Learning for Google Cloud Latin America at Google.
