With the goal of inspiring the educational community, Bett Talks was one of the highlights of the 29th edition of Bett Brasil, the largest gathering dedicated to innovation and technology in education in Latin America.

Through the project, educators from across the country were able to share their personal and professional experiences related to the education sector with the public during the four-day event.

“We know there are many different realities in the world of education, and I believe the selection of speakers for Bett Talks did an excellent job of highlighting these realities. We had startup founders, early childhood educators, youth educators, coordinators from the Adult and Youth Education (EJA) program, and people who overcame vulnerable situations with the support of educational programs, among others. Each life experience shapes our unique journey, and sharing it can encourage others to move forward,” noted Tiago Gusmão, a social-emotional learning educator at Instituto Signativo, who served as moderator for the Bett Talks presentations.

Bett Talks featured a total of 16 participants, who inspired the audience with stories of citizenship, inclusion, and learning. Bruna Felix, an educator, educational psychologist, and CEO of Conexão Educadora, shared her experience of being one of the educators who took the stage.

“Bett Brasil isn’t just an event—it’s a major occasion. Taking the stage at Latin America’s largest event for Innovation and Technology in Education is transformative, as it challenges and inspires. Furthermore, it provides the opportunity to meet and build connections with people committed to education. Participating in Bett Talks was a huge personal accomplishment, because I’ve always attended Bett Brasil as a conference attendee, and being on stage created a wonderful feeling that I’ll never forget,” said Bruna.

With a degree in education, Bruna completed a specialization in educational psychology, dividing her time between private practice and classroom settings in schools. She noted that both professional experiences were crucial for understanding and addressing issues in both environments. In this context, she created Conexão Educadora, a mentoring program for schools focused on Respectful Education, exploring the power of connections in school settings and how life stories can transform and enrich others.

Tamyres Silva, a professor and member of the Distance Learning Center at Faculdade de Extrema (Faex), was another voice who had the opportunity to share her story. “The experience of participating in Bett Talks added so much to my personal and professional life. I was inspired by my fellow participants and had the chance to experience another year of Bett Brasil in a more intimate way, moving throughout the event as a speaker, forming partnerships and friendships, and building a very important network of contacts,” said Tamyres.

At Bett Talks, Tamyres shared her educational journey, which began at a rural school, took her through the challenges of higher education, and culminated in her Master’s degree in Language Sciences from the University of Vale do Sapucaí—as well as the new undergraduate degree in Psychology she is currently pursuing. She spoke about her interest in projects aimed at high school students, with the goal of increasing their chances of continuing their education beyond high school.

Gusmão, who served as the moderator for the presentations in the auditorium, revealed that two main points caught his attention. “The audience identified with the stories shared by the speakers and were fully engaged; there were many moments of laughter and tears as the stories of overcoming adversity were told. After the presentation, engagement remained high, with speakers surrounded by educators for photos and to share experiences,” he said.

Another point noted by the mediator was the development of a sense of community among the speakers. “I organized the speakers into a WhatsApp group almost a month before the event so they could share their thoughts and ask questions. I didn’t expect this group to create such a supportive and welcoming environment. It gave the speakers a sense of security and comfort, allowing them the freedom to share their stories without fear of judgment. This group remains very active to this day, with members recommending each other’s work and participating in each other’s initiatives—a great success for the community,” the educator noted.

Bruna and Tamyres, meanwhile, were emphatic in expressing their hope that the initiative will continue for many more editions. “This initiative is important because it brings many voices into the conversation—voices that, together, are transforming the Brazilian educational landscape. Often, we aren’t heard; we don’t see people able to share their realities or even connect with a network of other educators. I hope Bett Talks continues for many editions to come, because in addition to participating, it was a pleasure to see all the friends we’ve met on this journey,” Tamyres emphasized.

And Bruna concluded: “It’s an initiative that aligns with education, because educating means giving everyone a chance to speak and be heard. Providing this space for those on the front lines of schools brings their reality to light, allowing us to create more powerful and positive solutions, structures, and actions for education.”
