Even before Bett UK began, the Brazilian delegation that traveled to London had the opportunity to learn a bit about the British education system through visits to preschools, elementary schools, and high schools. With more than 190 members, the delegation split up on Monday morning (the 22nd) to visit three institutions: The Grey Coat Hospital, St. Joseph’s Catholic School, and St. Augustine’s Catholic School.

At every school, the Brazilians were welcomed by the administration teams and went into the classrooms to observe teachers and students in action. At St. Joseph's, for example, they even had the opportunity to hear presentations about the school given by the children themselves.

At The Grey Coat Hospital, the cultural differences were very clear: it is an elementary and high school for girls only. “For us in Brazil, this is something that stands out, but for the British, this separation is normal,” said Adriana Martinelli, director of content at Bett Brasil.

The international educational immersion also highlighted other notable characteristics of London schools, such as high expectations regarding student behavior. “It was interesting to see how, without neglecting the academic side, they emphasize values and attitudes,” Adriana commented. In the afternoon, members of the delegation also participated in an activity at Google to discuss the use of artificial intelligence in education.

The delegation’s schedule will span the entire week, with additional visits to schools and institutions of higher education, in addition, of course, to their participation in Bett UK. The Brazilian delegation is supported by the British Consulate General and Edlatam Alliance, in partnership with Google for Education, Samsung, and Systemic Bilingual.
